SUMMARY:International Development: Education
DESCRIPTION:NOTE: Current dates are approximate.  \nFrom the thrilling chaos of Shanghai to the quiet hum of rural Tongzi\, China offers burgeoning teachers a startling new perspective on education. Students of the International Development: Education program at East China Normal University (ECNU) will embark on a deeply engaging study of how China’s youth prepare for adult life. \nECNU is a world-class research university that is considered a leader in China’s teacher training. This 4-week internship combines lectures with hands-on teaching experiences at local schools to reveal the full picture of China’s education system. Only eight students are selected for the program\, making it a unique and intimate journey. \nThe first week of classes will cover the history of education in China\, extending back to its ancient empires. This detailed history will set the stage for your discoveries over the coming weeks. During week one you will also visit a typical primary school in Shanghai to get a sense of urban schools. During week two you’ll visit the town of Tongzi in Guizhou Province; here you’ll get a chance to be a local English teacher. Students often find this becomes a very meaningful and impactful time as they bond with their Chinese students and host families. \nUsing the schools you visited for comparison\, the last two weeks of the program discuss the gaps between China’s urban and rural school systems. Discrepancy in education quality is a major social issue in China\, especially as education is considered critically important. You’ll also explore the intense pressures and challenges faced by Chinese students as they prepare for the future. \nAlumni of the International Development: Education internship have marvelled at the perspective and inspiration they gain from this program. Discover how the youth of a completely different culture learn and grow\, and how this priceless insight helps you become a better educator yourself. \nSee here for a video featuring students from 2018: https://v.qq.com/x/page/w0724324bex.html \nVisit our testimonials page to find out what past students thought of the program. \nNotes: \n\nThis program has a minimum number of students to run.
