DESCRIPTION:NOTE: Current dates are approximate.  \nWhat better place to study archaeology than in China\, one of the world’s most ancient civilizations? Few countries can trace a continuous history back to the Paleolithic Age – making China an academically rewarding destination for humanities students. \nThe Summer School on Chinese Archaeology investigates China’s most significant archaeological discoveries. Your studies begin with Early Chinese Civilization\, examining the discoveries in the Yellow River and Yangtze River and the origins of Chinese diet and agriculture. By studying China in the context of ancient East Asia\, you’ll learn about the shift from Shang Dynasty to Zhou Dynasty\, and the politics and cultures of the powerful Qin\, Han and Tang Dynasties. Also discussed is the political significance of bronze\, and the communication between east and west on the famous Silk Road. \nThis program provides learning opportunities both inside and outside of the university. Your studies will take you to museums\, national parks\, and laboratories for insight on how technology and collaboration assist archaeological research. Field trips to excavations conducted by Shangdong University will illuminate Shangdong’s Qilu culture\, which is the typical representative of Chinese culture. This program also covers today’s opportunities and challenges in Chinese cultural heritage protection. \nJoin renowned professors for a hands-on experience of China’s vast heritage. The Fudan University International Summer Session offers a wide selection of courses and activities that focus on delivering high academic value and true cultural experiences. Fudan’s location in Shanghai\, a city of stunning diversity\, provides the perfect setting to immerse yourself in China’s vibrant history and culture. \nThis program takes place over four weeks. Students take from one to three content courses plus optional language and PE courses\, and participate in historical and cultural visits. SUMMARY:Experiential Health Seminar
DESCRIPTION:Shanghai is home to an integrated mix of traditional and Western medicine. In this program you’ll investigate the industry for yourself through hands-on field placements at notable medical institutions. \nThe China Health Experiential Seminar takes place both in the classroom and out in the field. Students will volunteer two half-days per week at a variety of distinguished hospitals and clinics\, getting a true look at China’s public health system. Sites include the Children’s Hospital of Shanghai\, Fudan University Shanghai Cancer Center\, and Natural Path Academy. You’ll experience a wide range of medical practices to expand your understanding of public health. \nBack in the classroom you’ll learn about the medicalization of America and China. With each topic\, students will review various ethnographic case studies that examine changing values and rituals in medicine. Throughout the program you’ll refine your observational\, research\, and reporting skills and keep a field journal of your experiences. \nThe bustling metropolis of Shanghai provides opportunity to study how the public health system tackles issues like gentrification\, rural-urban migration\, and health risks posed by a high-density population. Students will also look at the influence of ancient Chinese customs including ancestor worship and filial obligations. \nIn just one month\, this program will add invaluable international perspective – plus real-world experiences – to your medical studies. \nNote: This program has a minimum number of students to run. If the minimum is not reached\, then the program will be cancelled. The CLIC office will inform students as soon as it knows if the program has enough students to run.
